Zilzie Wines, in the Murray Valley, has released one of Australia's first 100% carbon-neutral wines.

A post-heatwave vineyard study will provide growers in four States with information to help them better respond to future heatwave events.

WISE WATER USE

Western Australian viticulture researchers  recently held a series of workshops to
gather information about managing vineyard water resources in the south-
west of the State.

PENOLA BYPASS ROAD

Coonawarra wine businesses affected by the planned Penola bypass road will suffer from lost vineyard area and will need to undertake extra work to re-adjust rows and irrigation mechanics, with the matter compounded by unknown compensation from the Wattle Range Council and a potential loss of tourism dollars.

AWBC VINEYARDS SURVEY - UNDERGOING A RE-THINK

The AWBC is reviewing how it collects its world benchmark statistics, after the
Australian Bureau of Statistics advised it would reduce the content of its collections and increase cost as a result of a cut in Federal funding.

BUSHFIRE IMPACT

Australian research agencies, including the AWRI, will analyse more than 1500 vine and wine samples for smoke taint this year, following February's Victorian bushfires.

SOIL SOLUTIONS

Viticulture consultant Kym Ludvigsen  answers the question of whether the
effect of fire on vines and vineyard  infrastructure will affect replanting
programs.

Permanent grass swards have been found to increase the size of soil bacterial
populations, many of which are beneficial to grapevines.

COVERCROPPING

Scholefield Robinson Horticultural Services Mildura consultant Yasmin Chalmers looks at the fundamentals of covercropping for drought conditions and gives information about two of the latest trials being undertaken.
